Recently there have been outbreaks of the equine herpes virus back east and in northern California. Please be assured that we do not have any horses with the herpes virus, and to avoid a problem we are instituting a quarantine procedure at Tommy Town.
We will make arrangements with the haulers for all incoming horses to arrive at 1470 Count Fleet, Santa Ynez. This is part of our farm, but is a 110 acre parcel about two miles from our main ranch at 5699 Happy Canyon.
- We will test all horses for the herpes virus upon arrival.
- All horses will remain at 1470 Count Fleet for two weeks. Alamo Pintado has told us that an infected horse will spike a temperature within two weeks if they have been exposed.
Please be aware of this two week quarantine when sending in horses for training, and when sending in mares for breeding and/or foaling. Mares in foal should arrive at least six weeks prior to their due date to allow for quarantine time, and possible early foaling.
If you have any questions or require additional information please call Mike Allen on his cell at 805 331 8268.
Wishing you a wonderful year.
