Tommy Town Thoroughbreds remains
committed to maintaining its status as
one of California’s premier breeding
farms, as well as a top training facility. The stallions standing at Tommy Town in 2008 are Ministers Wild Cat, Old Topper, Cat Dreams, Uncle Denny, Hold for Gold and Mambo Train.

Tommy Town was established in 2000, with the purchase by Tom and Debi Stull of a 165-acre ranch, formerly owned by D. Wayne Lukas, in the lush Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County. To accommodate its growth, the Stulls since acquired an additional 200 adjoining acres. The training side of the farm has 100 stalls, a custom Equi- Ciser and a seven-furlong track that is maintained by two full-time workers. On the breeding side, there is a 35-stall foaling barn. With over 350 acres of land, the farm offers pasture boarding for mares, foals and yearlings year-round.

Tommy Town has been successful in assembling and retaining an outstanding team. Mike Allen, the Ranch Manager and Rene Maldonado, the Stallion Manager, joined Tommy Town in 2001. Ismael Cisneros, the Assistant Training Manager, has been employed since 2000. To ensure effective rehabilitation of injured horses, the farm works closely with Alamo Pintado Equine Clinic, in addition
to the breeding veterinarian, Dr. Bill Stevenson, who specializes and is expert in the care of broodmares and foals. The farm has 50 employees who live on-site.

Although Tommy Towns’ focus has been breeding, racing and private sales have become of equal importance in the last few years. The training program at the farm, excellent pedigrees and exceptional facilities are utilized to prepare horses to race in California and several other states. This program has resulted in Tommy Town being very successful in racing. Tommy Town also offers breaking and sales preparation, as well as lay-ups and rehabilitation for a return to racing.

Tommy Town has bred and trained several successful stakes horses, including She’s Gottogetaway,
Top This and That, Bless Idbyour Name and California champion Sierra Sweetie. In addition to racing, Tommy Town also sells horses both in the sales ring and privately. A few notable private sales of horses who went on to race successfully are Sierra Sweetie ($290,400) and Top Authority ($141,001).

Tommy Towns’ 2007 breeding season saw Old Topper bred to 75 mares, Ministers Wild Cat to 71 mares, Cat Dreams to 30 mares and Uncle Denny to 33 mares. At the close of the season Tommy Town had an in-foal percentage of 98 percent, their highest ever.

Sadly, Valid Wager who stood at Tommy Town since 2001, died in May 2007. Valid Wager sired many top runners, including Valid Video ($662,700), Sophie’s Trophy and A. V. Flynn to name but a few.

Old Topper, who earned $655,861 while racing was California’s leading freshmen sire in 2004, leading secondcrop sire in 2005 and leading third-crop sire for 2006. With four crops racing his progeny earnings exceed $5 million. Top This and That ($377,746) and Sierra Sweetie are his leading earners.

Minister’s Wild Cat, by Deputy Minister out of Hollywood Wildcat, began his stallion career breeding 72
mares in 2006, and 71 mares in 2007. Due to his impressive, champion-filled pedigree, and the number of mares bred, Tommy Town believes Ministers Wild Cat will be the leading freshman sire in California for 2009. Tommy Town appreciates the support received by this stallion with a Kentucky pedigree at a California rate.
